Joe Escourido, the Colonials

Joe Escourido was an American newspaper comic artist. Born in Estelle, Darlington, as Joseph James Escourido, he grew up in Virginia and North Carolina. Escourido attended the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, following his service in the Air Force during World War II. He worked as an artist throughout his life, producing works that included oil-based and water color paintings. He also made illustrations for children’s books and other text publications, as well as sketch and ink-based drawings for newspapers.
