Leonard Starr (October 28, 1925 – June 30, 2015) was an American cartoonist, comic book artist, and advertising artist, best known for creating the newspaper comic strip On Stage and reviving Little Orphan Annie.

Mary Perkins scritto e disegnato con maestria da Leonard Starr dal febbraio 1957 al Settembre 1979 ha goduto di buon successo negli Stati Uniti ma ha faticato a farsai conoscere in Europa. Ha fatto apparizioni in diversi paesi ma stupisce che due paesi come Italia e Francia dove il media fumetto gode di ampia produzione e diffusione non abbia tributatoa questa eroina il risalto che meritava. In Francia poi ha fatto fugaci apparizioni su Paris-Jour e Modes de Paris sotto il nome di Adorable Marie.
