Status Quo
“People are born arsonists and die firefighters.”
Colonel Moretti is the exception to that rule.
Beginning his career as a police officer, Moretti later became involved in covert operations and the murky world of espionage, crossing lines he once believed should never be crossed. Now, approaching retirement, he is haunted by the choices he made while serving what he thought was the right side. Determined to make amends for the damage he caused, he tries to right the wrongs of his past whenever he can.
With nothing left to lose, Moretti faces his final battle. He is seriously ill and knows his time may be running out. Among the many burdens he carries, one stands above all others: years ago, while following orders, he was responsible for the death of the only woman he ever loved.
Set against the turbulent backdrop of Italy in the 1970s and 1980s, where politics, terrorism, intelligence services, and organized crime often overlapped, the series draws on one of the most dramatic periods in the country’s history.
The story unfolds across two timelines: the 1970s and the present day. Rather than relying on traditional flashbacks, both narratives develop in parallel, allowing past and present to echo, influence, and illuminate one another.
