Amanti Mantova

The Lovers Of Mantua

The Lovers of Mantua—also known as the Lovers of Valdaro—are two Neolithic skeletons discovered in 2007 near Mantua, Italy. Found buried in a tender embrace, they quickly became one of the most famous and moving archaeological discoveries of recent times.

This wordless comic imagines one possible story behind the two young lovers and their final resting place. Created for primary school readers, the book tells its story entirely through images, encouraging children to interpret the events for themselves and to develop their own ideas about the lives, emotions, and fate of its protagonists.

By removing written dialogue and narration, the comic invites readers to become active participants in the storytelling process, using observation, imagination, and creativity to bring the story to life.
